It’s gotten to the point now where I have some administrative things to do this weekend. General upkeep and the like. The two big glaring items on my list were to do my laundry and to get my hair cut. Operating on the assumption that I can only accomplish one meaningful thing per day, I [...]
The summer in between my sophomore and junior year of high school, I bought The Best of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog on DVD. I didn’t know it at the time, but it would end up being a fairly important purchase. Tracing a line backwards through my life, that DVD is probably what really [...]
Things are coming right along and progress is being made. No more do I agonize over missing my subway stop – I know exactly which one it is. No more do I worry about having to call someone by name before I know it – I’ve learned nearly every name. And no more do I [...]
It felt like the first day of school. There I was, the youthful idealist, ready to get my hands dirty with another experience in unpaid employment.
The guy I work immediately under is named Todd. He explained how he came to work there: “I was working for Food Network at the time doing awful production assistant [...]
Work got off to a kickstart on Friday when I got a frantic phone call from a woman named Carol. “What will they do about the different set colors when the show moves? Will black and blue really work?” she pleaded. It took me a moment to realize that she was making a serious inquiry [...]
I just found another chair in the closet. This doubles my furniture count.
I’m coming on up in the world, yes sir.
It was more of a warm-up, really. The show is concluding a two-week hiatus, so there was no frantic shouting and no impossible deadlines to meet. That all starts Monday.
Today it was just phones to answer and random chores to be taken care of. For example, today I:
Ran downtown to pick up a DVD (I’m [...]
Yesterday I was 100% living in Virginia. Today I am 100% living in New York City. It was a weird, scary process but it all panned out. I’ve now got a little 10×10 hovel in Harlem.
(By the way, I definitely recommend spending the extra $50 a month to upgrade from a “crack den” to a [...]
I’ve recently had a series of dreams that feature celebrities beating the crap out of each other. Last night Paul Giamatti and Angelina Jolie went at it with baseball bats. I’m trying to figure out what to worry about – what this says about me or what it says about Hollywood.
I live in New York City now.
This happened rather quickly.
I’m not some world-class cyclist, but I have seen Breaking Away.
I rode my bike to the bank today. This was a two-part mistake – I had just eaten breakfast and it was uncomfortably hot outside. I added a third part when I totally threw away any leisure element to the ride. I started wailing on [...]

Drive to where Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina meet. Then turn off of the paved road and onto the gravel. Find the tiny dirt path that intersects the gravel, and follow it until your cell phone reads “Service? Yeah right!” There’s a cabin there. It’s the cabin where we spent the first two nights of [...]
This just in: North Carolina is incredible.
We’re in Timber Ridge, VA at the moment. Mom’s driving us home, doing her best to dodge traffic and hillbillies. We’ll be out of the car in a few short hours.
We are in Damascus, VA.
Biblical parallels aside, it is quaint and eclectic. The shops are mural-painted and the houses have permanent garage sales taking place in their front yards.
We stopped here to get coffee on our way to North Carolina. Lo and behold, free wi-fi!
Coming to you live from the wilds of Shady Valley, Tennessee. Mom and Hannah are picking wild blackberries. Dad built a fire. I’m getting plugged in to nature by writing this on his iPhone.
