In Which I Explore Alternative Landmarks

You can have your Flatiron Building and your Statue of Liberty, your Yankee Stadium and your Times Square. I’m interested in the other stuff, the less obvious and more idiosyncratic. So today I went on a minor pop culture exodus. Here was my first stop:

This is 129 West 81st Street, an address that won’t mean much to you unless you obsess over the details in Seinfeld. It’s Jerry’s address in the show and is where he actually lived during his early working days as a standup comedian.

In keeping with the Seinfeld theme, I dug this place up:

This is the slightly more iconic exterior of Tom’s Restaurant, referred to as “Monk’s Diner” on the show, where Jerry and company always ate and agonized over the intricacies of daily life. It’s located at 112th and Broadway and has been in operation since the 1950’s. I had their fish and chips for dinner. Not bad.

    you got a pretty steady hand with that camera. that shot of tom’s is impressively not blurry.
